The essential problem of the thesis is that of the production of homogeneous significations from heterogeneous semiotic systems: verbal and visual. The subject of our research is the complex of mechanisms of «resolutions of heterogeneousness». In the frame of this complex we take into consideration the phenomena of poly-sensoriality, connotative semiotics and metasemiotics. We consider the icono-texts of advertisements in their narrative, actantial, modal and spatiotemporal dimensions. Our objective is to find common and undividable semiotic structures which can be examined only in the union of verbal and visual systems. We suggest a new method of semantic analysis inspired by the tables of Hjelmslev, which were created in order to compare the form of significance of different languages. We adapted this method to study iconotexts of different languages. It allows to realize the difference of the transmission of information by verbal and visual signs of the advertisment. Our thesis also studies the problem of visual and verbal expression of odours as well as their dicoursive and figurative manifesations. During our research we analyze the transmission of the perfume image across the iconotexts of the advertisement. Using the mecanisms of figurative syntax, those of close sensorial figures and those of synesthesia we find out differents ways of creating olfactive meanings thanks to the interaction of modes of the sensible and to their verbal and visual realization. The research is made on the material of the advertisements of perfumes published in magazines and catalogues in 2003-2007. French and Russian advertisements are analyzed in comparison.
